Record-Setting Race

Almost 150 children in Trail Life and American Heritage Girls met at the Northwest Florida Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 9, for what is believed to be the largest Pine Car Derby in Trail Life history.

Including parents, 168 cars entered the fourth annual Chase on the Coast Pine Car Derby sponsored by AnchorsGordon. The event champion was American Heritage Girl Maddie D. with Trailman Eli L. finishing second and American Heritage Girl Rayla H. in third.

The fastest car was the dual CO2-powered "Double Trouble" by Trail Life Troop FL-0777 Committee Chairman, Matt Hicks, which ran the 42-foot track in a blistering 1.23 seconds, also believed to be a Trail Life record. As a powered car, it ran in the exhibition-only Outlaw class and did not qualify for the event championship.
